Bike Temple is a University-wide program to promote bicycle use by Temple students, faculty, and staff. The overall goal of the program is to enable more people to travel on a bike and to do so safely and to build a great bike culture at Temple that supports the University’s commitment to sustainability and reputation for innovative, green programs.
The Temple community is becoming increasingly bike oriented, and a geographical analysis of current faculty and staff addresses confirms the potential for increasing bicycles as a form of transportation, including commuting to Temple campuses; over 3,300 faculty and staff, or 31%, live within four miles of Main Campus, over 5,100, or 48%, live within six miles of Main Campus. While student address information is not readily available, we do know that there are thousands of students living a “bikeable” distance from the University.
Bike Temple hosts Urban Riding Basics courses year-round, which are quick 30-45 minute courses designed to get bikers comfortable with riding in an urban setting by instructing the basics of safety, laws of the road, and how to conduct an equipment
check. The course is free and open to all Temple students, faculty, and staff and each attendee receives a biodegradable Bike Temple water bottle. To schedule an Urban Riding Basics course, contact the Bike Temple Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or drop us a line using our contact form.
Bike Temple will periodically post rides on this website, which are free and open to the public. Some rides include a Bike to Breakfast Event, Halloween Ride, February Frostbite Ride, Awesomely Bad Movie Ride, and a Tashlich Ride. Check out the calendar for upcoming ride, or register on the Bike Temple website to post information or ask a questions about a ride you wish to coordinate!
Bike Temple will also post biking related events, news, and information around the Philadelphia community. Check out the Resources page, Community page, or Calendar for news and events that interest you. Thank you for visiting and we hope to see you on the road soon!
