Bilenky Junkyard Cyclocross Race

Date & Time:
Sunday, December 18, 2011 - 10:00am

This year, on December 18th,  the Bilenky Cycle Works will be hosting the Bilenky Junkyard Cyclocross event.  For those who aren't aware, the sport of cyclocross is a demanding activity that requires of its participants a high level of physical endurance to complete a course that is composed of various terrains that could range from asphalt to mud.  The courses typically take around 30 minutes and are made up of various terrains and obstacles that sometimes force the participants to dismount and run with their bicycle over their shoulder.  The Bilenky Cyclocross race is like many other cyclocross races, but instead of using an open field like many others, the track is set in a junkyard located in the Olney area.  This means that the riders are facing significantly more peril to themselves and their bicycles as the possibility for debris interfering with their ride is increased greatly.  The track also features a variety of unusual obstacles, such as a see-saw, tunnels, and barricades.  If you are interested in participating, registration can be done at the website of Bilenky Cycle Works, found in the link below.  If not, the cost of admission for those wishing to spectate is $5.

A video can be found on Youtube as to what last year's event looked like, for those who are still unsure of cyclocross after my somewhat vague description
