How to take a bike on a plane

Before I moved to Berlin in January to cover a colleague's maternity leave, I spent a lot of time worrying about how I was going to import my bikes.

Before you start, I know. I should have taken the train. But I didn't, and you're going to have to get over that. I didn't have time and it was too expensive. Let's move on.

North Philly Bike Salon Adult Repair Classes

Our Basic Bicycle Repair course for adults is a great way to begin learning how to repair and maintain your bike yourself, or to brush up on rusty repair skills. The class meets weekly for a month. Lessons typically include parts of the bike and bike fit, care and feeding of your brakes and shifting, and an introduction to overhauling bearings. More advanced procedures can be covered on request. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes.

Classes meet Tuesday evenings (6:30-9pm) at our 1426 W Susquehanna N. Philly location.

Boris Bikes Roll in London

Sitting astride a big, gray bicycle at the head of a long line of traffic on City Road last month, I studied the 20 or more other cyclists who were — with varying degrees of skill and impatience — crossing the intersection on a red light. Some were swerving among startled and cursing pedestrians, bells ringing; others had expertly timed a slalom between four lanes of cars. What all these cyclists shared, however, was a sense of liberating entitlement.

Southern California's First Separated Bike Lanes Open in Long Beach

It's hard to believe that Southern California's bikers are still relegated to riding over painted lanes and stenciled sharrows (at best) when they bike on city streets. But that will change for one community when the region's first bike lanes separated from car traffic open Saturday in Long Beach.
