Campus Sustainability Week!

As Bike Temple is housed under the Office of Sustainability, I'd like to invite you all to get active on Temple University's campus and participate in Sustainability Week! If nothing else, come by the Bike Temple tent on Sustainability Day, October 24 and play 'name that bike part' and play the tire tube toss! Below is the complete list of events for the week. Music Swap

Boyer College of Music is celebrating Campus Sustainability Week by promoting the three R's - reduce, reuse, recycle. Boyer is encouraging students, staff and faculty to bring in their lightly used sheet music for a music swap. Stop by to make a donation or to browse for free sheet music. Limit of 15 pieces of music per person.

The Office of Sustainability will be a hosting its fifth annual green fair to celebrate National Campus Sustainability Day. The green fair will feature student organizations, academic departments and sustainability related organizations from around the City of Philadelphia.

Friday, October 26Temple University’s Computer Recycling Center – A behind the scenes tour

This is a behind the scenes tour and a history review of the award winning CRC’s activities. Did you know the University buys over 3,000 computers per year? What happens to the all of those computers when they are no longer wanted?  Did you know you could buy a refurbished computer for less than $100? Since it’s in inception in 2003 the CRC has grown into a national model that has been promoted by the EPA.  Learn how the Computer Recycling Center has diverts over 80 tons of electronic equipment from the land fill every year and how you can do your part to help out.

The Office of Sustainability and Philly Urban Creators will host a work day at the Philadelphia Urban Creators Farm on Dakota Street.

Saturday, October 27Cobbs Creek Clean-up

Cobbs Creek is part of the Fairmount Park System, the country's largest urban park network. Located in Southwest Philadelphia, Cobbs Creek Park features two tributaries of the Darby Creek: Cobbs Creek and Naylors Run. This event will focus on cleaning up the banks of Cobbs Creek. All supplies will be provided, including transportation. Buses leave at 9:30 from the Bell Tower.

Halloween Costume Fun Ride

Meet up with Bike Temple at the Bell Tower for a fun ride to Laurel Hill Cemetary for a free tour. Expert riders will be in attendance to mentor new riders. Costumes are encouraged. To register for the event, email sustainability@temple.edu.
